Why is individual liberty necessary?
- No one person can know what everyone needs and wants.
- The only person who knows what you need or want is YOU.
- Each time in history that liberty has been maximized for the individual, that society saw tremendous growth and innovation.
- Each time in history that liberty was minimized for the individual we have seen a decline in the growth, innovation and success of that society.
- It is just.
- If a government tries to steer people to one choice or another by creating tax incentives or deductions, the government is then distorting the cost/benefit relationship of those choices. If a government distorts the cost/benefit relationship then when the government realizes the unsustainability of that program, and removes that incentive/deduction, the house of cards will fall down.
- A government cannot know what each person needs and therefore if they try to suppose what each person needs they will then be trampling on the needs of others. No government/entity/person/organization can have enough information to know the needs of everyone in a small town, let alone a 300 million person nation.
- The desires of a person are important as well. Some people value cars or health care or a house or nicer clothes or travel or leisure time. No government has a right to shape our desires, that is not what freedom is about.
- The government distorts cost/benefit choices each day with new tax incentives and credits. Thereby making poor choices less costly and steering more people into choosing those bad choices and thus ruining their lives.
- "Need" is a distorted word. We only need a base amount of calories and minimal shelter. Yet the government talks of need as this: overabundance of exciting food, big houses, lots of clothes and luxury items.
- When the U.S. government demands that people have "access" to health care and "living wage" jobs and other privileges like that, the government is denying the fact that many people choose not to have "access" to health care because they WANT other things, that many people DO NOT WANT higher paying jobs because they do not WANT to be trained for them.
If we have the government "choose" for us then we will have no choice to be bend to the will of the masses and if you don't like it.........
